ARC Review - Honour Thy Father by Ssan Mackie

I absolutely adored this book. From the very first page, I was completely invested in the story and didn’t want to put it down.

I’m already a huge fan of Susan Mackie’s Barrington series, so I’ll admit I went into this one wondering whether it could possibly live up to my expectations. Somehow, it exceeded them. In my opinion, this is her best work yet.

The writing is powerful, intelligent, and deeply engaging, with characters and family dynamics that felt incredibly real. I was fascinated by both timelines and loved the way the past and present slowly unfolded together, revealing generations of secrets, heartbreak, sacrifice, and resilience. The historical storyline especially drew me in, but I was equally invested in Abigail and Sylvia’s present-day journey.

Susan Mackie has such a wonderful ability to write emotionally layered stories that completely pull you into the lives of her characters. Every revelation felt meaningful, and I found myself thinking about this family long after I’d finished reading for the night.

This was one of those books I wanted to savour because I loved it so much, yet I still flew through it because I simply couldn’t stop turning the pages.

A beautifully written and compelling start to what promises to be an unforgettable series. I am already incredibly eager for the next instalment.
