Susan Mackie has done it again, delivering a story that completely drew me in and wouldn’t let me go. From the very first page, I was hooked, unable to put this book down.

Nicole and her daughter, Lucy, move to Barrington in search of a fresh start, hoping to leave behind the trauma that has shaped their lives. Purchasing the old courthouse, Nicole has big plans to renovate the historic building and transform it into a charming B&B. But new beginnings don’t always come easy, and when an unfortunate mishap with the removal truck threatens to derail the move, their neighbour Robbie steps in to save the day. He’s kind, dependable—and undeniably attractive. But Nicole has made a promise to Lucy: no more men. And she intends to keep it.

As the story unfolds, we witness the emotional journey of healing—not just for Nicole and Lucy, but for those around them as well. Mackie beautifully explores the restorative power of animals, especially horses and dogs, showing how they can mend wounds that words sometimes can’t. And through Robbie, Nicole begins to realise that not all men are created equally, and maybe, just maybe, she doesn’t have to face the future alone.

This is a heartfelt story that tugs at the heartstrings, making you want to cry one moment and laugh out loud the next. And, true to the spirit of the Barrington Series, it ultimately leaves you smiling. Another stunning addition to the series!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – 5/5
