Sheep Gully Road is a beautifully written story that warms the soul and manages to make you both laugh and cry—often in the same chapter. Laurelle Cousins weaves a heartfelt tale of healing, second chances, and unexpected connection set against the backdrop of the charming town of Forest Gully.

At the heart of the story are Gus Stevens, a former fireman haunted by a rescue that went tragically wrong, and Kate Harris, a determined woman raising her young nephew Riley while trying to prove she’s capable of being the guardian he needs. Their lives collide when Kate moves in next door, bringing with her a joyful energy that Gus would rather avoid. But as the two navigate grief, guilt, and the complexities of starting over, their bond deepens in a way neither expected.

The complexity of the main characters adds real depth to the second chance love trope. You genuinely feel for them—so much so that you forget they’re fictional. Their tragic backstories offer meaningful insight into their personalities, making their journey toward healing all the more powerful.

Laurelle has a true gift for bringing the countryside to life through her writing. Forest Gully is vivid and inviting, and the warmth of the community leaps off the page. And let’s be honest—if you didn’t love sheep before reading this, you absolutely will after. I completely fell in love with Monica and firmly believe everyone needs a sheep like her in their life.

This is a tender, uplifting read filled with heart, humour, and hope—an absolute gem that stays with you long after the final page.
